Completion of Upper Orara

We are happy to say we have made the shortlist for the 2014 Sustainable Architecture award AIA NSW Chapter with the Upper Orara project. We are in excellent company and happy to be there.

This new house is located in the rural hinterland of Coffs Harbour. It has been sited on the top of a ridge following the contours, facing north to north-east and captures 360 degree views of the district.

The house is low and linear in form, stretched out across the ridgeline. There are two wings: one housing guest bedrooms and bathrooms, and the other housing the main living area and master bedroom.

These wings meet in the middle of the house and the shifting geometry forms the main entrance and a large covered deck.

The external walls are constructed from pre-cast concrete with timber formwork. The floor is terazzo tiles throughout, with in-slab hydronic heating. The structural frame is steel, with expansive areas of glass to open up to the stunning views.
