PADDINGTON TERRACE
This project is a typical Paddington terrace of approximately 4.5 metres wide. The terrace has an East-West orientation with the rear facing due west.
The clients wanted to give the terrace a complete overhaul, creating open plan living and dining opening out to the courtyard garden at the back and let as much light and ventilation into the centre of the terrace as possible. A new attic storey was also added to provide additional accommodation.
The design is crisp and clean-lined and makes use of every inch of space available. The existing stair was re-modeled to provide additional storage and become less obtrusive, the vertical battens emphasise the height of the space whilst providing textural relief. As the stair gets higher it becomes more transparent and open to let light from the sky-light, filter down to the bottom.
The location of the galley kitchen allows seamless circulation, between the rear living room and the original front rooms of the terrace without intruding on either. The steel framed roof light and high level windows ensure maximum light enters the living areas without loss of privacy.
The internal colour scheme is all white, which reflects light deep into the central room of the terrace and creates a feeling of harmony and openness throughout the project. |
